SEA KAYAKING TIPS

Sea Kayaking:
Low Telemark Turn
Ray Fusco

A low telemark turn is a low brace turn. Start by paddling forward to pick up some speed. Place your low brace at a 45-degree angle from your stern. Lean on your low brace for support and completely edge your boat to decrease its waterline. Quickly pull the kayak around the low brace, using your lower body to help. As your momentum slows, slide your low brace forward, for continued support, to a 90-degree angle with the kayak. Low brace up to the upright position.

Tip: Practice this to increase comfort and commitment to the water. Do not over extend yourself or compromise vulnerable joints.
