CLUBS
Port of Plymouth Canoeing Association

Plymouth,
UK

The Port of Plymouth Canoeing Association (PPCA) is an active kayak and canoe club with over 120 members. It is based at the Mount Batten Water Sports Centre, Mount Batten in Plymouth, Devon, on the SouthWest Coast of England (UK) where it has good access to excellent spots to paddle canoes and kayaks.

The PPCA encourages everyone to have a try at canoeing. Introductory courses are run throughout the summer months every year and provide an ideal 'taster' into this watersport.

The introductory courses (1*) sessions are run on Thursday evenings using kayaks. These are open to all non-members ages from 12 upwards. The sessions run in 5-weekly programmes running through the basic kayak handling skills leading up to the BCU 1 Star Award. The emphasis is on having fun as well as learning, and everyone is encouraged to 'have a go'. Here is the Application Form

The coaches for every course are qualified BCU senior instructors. Kayaks, buoyancy aids, spray covers (if required) and paddles are provided. Please read the General Advice Section (below). Bring warm clothes to wear on the water, and a set to wear afterwards. The changing rooms and showers are available for use before and after the sessions.
