Manchester University Canoe Club provides every student at Manchester University with the opportunity to take part in canoeing activities.
The club meets for a pool session at the Manchester Aquatics Centre (Commonwealth pool) Tuesdays 7:00-9:00pm during term time. The pool provides a safe, warm and closely controlled environment in which our experienced instructors can teach students everything from the basic techniques of controlling the boat to the more advanced skills involved in tackling difficult white water rapids.
The club runs weekend trips at least twice every month in the first semester and almost as many in the second. The trips are designed to introduce novice paddlers to progressively more challenging runs as they gain skills and confidence. For those who already paddle the more experienced members regularly run their own trips into neighboring Wales or up to Cumbria to take on grade 4/5+ rivers with the annual trip to Scotland at Easter providing a week of brilliant paddling.
