You're probably wondering "What the hell is the Walley World Whitewater Club?" Good question. It started out as a bunch of us redneck guys from around Waynesboro, Va. who had gotten ourselves hooked on whitewater rafting. We got to know some of the staff at a small rafting outfitter in Wild & Wonderful West Virginia (there's some more of those damned W's). One night the River Manager was here in Waynesboro for a local outdoor sporting show. He met us at a local watering hole (Capt'n Sams Landing -- Great Seafood). We were talking about the new outdoor center that the outfitter was getting ready to open (we'd been hearing about this thing for 3 years!). He let it slip that they had been working on it for so long that he called it Walley World. Well the name stuck, at least with us.
After that, we were sitting around having a good time drinking and talking about the next trip we wanted to take. Somebody decided that we should have WWWWC T-shirts printed up for ourselves and our favorite guides. Then some other idiot came up with a design (hope to have it scanned soon).
That was a number of years ago and a lot of things have happened since then. Our little group has dwindled and we don't get together nearly as often as we'd like. Some of us got into kayaking (me), some got married (me), some of us went back to school (me again), and one of us went on to become a whitewater raft guide (guess who).
