A Fabulous Season to Remember

Wow, wow, wow...it is all done - the final competition of the year is over now and I did not only have a great season, but also a fabulous last competition here in Brazil with a victory in both freestyle and wave discipline. It feels like all my dreams came true and I could not be any happier right now and want to say thanks to my sponsors JN Kites, Mystic and Caribbean Winds here, because without them I would not be where I am now. I think back sometimes to the time when I started Kiteboarding almost 4 years ago and how much things have changed for me since then. I just know that I made the right decision to leave the office in Germany to travel the world even without knowing where it all leads to and am very thankful for the life I live… happy and very relaxed. I will stay here in Brazil until end of November and practice a little bit. I will keep you updated about my trips during the winter and wish all of you the best for now.

The Road to Championship...

Again, I had a busy time, traveling from one competition to the next. And again it could not have been better for me! Straight after my Girls Camp in Germany I went to Canada for the 6th PKRA World Cup competition of this year. I enjoyed the stay on the Iles de la Madeleine, but I enjoyed even more my victory in the competition. It was the first competition this year that I took part in with light wind. Finally I could sail on my big kites for a change. I actually liked the conditions a lot and was more than happy to get one step closer to my big goal, the world champion title.

Now it got very exciting for me. I had to take 4th place in one of the two upcoming world cups and that would be it. So I went pretty much straight to Sardinia/Italy to get ready for the PKRA in the North of this beautiful island. Unfortunately the wind was very light, to not there at all, and the first days of the competition were just sitting around at the beach and waiting for wind. But the wind was back in time and we could at least finish the single elimination. The conditions were very difficult with onshore wind and a lot of current and wind waves. It was more fighting than kiting, but I managed to make it through the heats all right. When I had made it up to the 3rd place I knew I was there! I would be World Champion 2005 and nothing could happen anymore! (Only official by the end of the last PKRA of the year.) I was so stoked, I almost forgot about the rest of the competition and the final, but got focused in time to win the PKRA in Italy as well! What a feeling!

Even better: because of the JN Dealers meeting we were going to have in the South of Sardinia right after the competition all the JN people were there to celebrate! I unfortunately had only 2 days time to join the JN crew for the meeting and had to leave to Maui again. After 8 hours on the ferry boat, 14 hours in the car, 6 hours in the train and 20 hours in airplanes I finally arrived on my dream island to take part in the Red Bull King of the Air, basically an old school big air competition. There I had to do some very old school board off and one food jumps again, because low altitude technical moves did not count in this contest, and I got second. Now I get ready for the 8th and last PKRA competition in Brazil and to actually get the title!!!
