The Companion by Holland Grill

Picture this: You pull the rafts ashore and get out to
examine camp. You take the barbeque with you and park it on a log
to warm up while you unload the boats. By the time the kitchen is
in place, the grill is hot, so you dig the chicken out of the
cooler and put it on the grill. You shut the lid, set the
timer.
An hour later camp is laid, tents are pitched, several beers
are drunk and that chicken is ready to chow! Not only that but you
didn't have to check it once or put out a single fire.
Best of all...it never tasted better!
As much as any guy who ever felt at home in his time-honored
station beside the barbee, keeping an eye on the flames and nursing
a beer, I like the old-fashioned way a whole lot better,
not. The Holland is guaranteed not to flame up (as long as
you clean it regularly), and there is nothing to check; in fact
chicken-checking is counterproductive. Set a timer and set up camp.
An hour and you're good to go.
The Holland company is a premier, old time barbeque company.
Their full-sized units will nick you for a K, but they recently
released a mini grill, the Companion, designed to take along with
you to the stadium or the riverside. It comes with an optional
storage /carry bag and even a steel mount arm to plug right into
your hitch for tailgating convenience.
The unit is all stainless steel, as are all of their grills, and
is a beautiful thing to behold. A couple of very cool smoke stacks
slide up out of the hood and lock into place when you're ready for
business. The Companion cooks radiantly, if I have that
right—no direct flame on the food. You'll still get a grilled
look to the meat but the cooking is much more gentle (and better
for you) than a flamethrower grill. The savory drippings drop down,
incinerate, and delicately flavor the meat.
The Companion has an adjustable flame setting and operates on a
disposable propane cylinder, good for short trips, or with an
adaptor it connects up to a one-gallon tank, like the one we use to
power up lanterns and two burners in camp.
MSRP is over $300 but you can find them for less on eBay. Check
it out at: Hollandgrill.com.
